Shirefarm is home to Hobbit Creek Nigerians
Our Nigerian Dwarf goats are registered with the ADGA (American Dairy Goat Association) all tested CAE and Johnnes negative as of 2022.
Why Nigerians? When we initially decided to purchase our first Nigerian Dwarf Goats in 1999 one of the major reason was because goat's milk is better for all mammals than cow's milk, goat's milk is lower in lactose, has smaller easier to break down protein compounds, and more vitamin B-12 than cow's milk. Another factor in our decision to get Nigerians was the ease of handling a 50-75 pound goat, as well as the potential to have milk year round from polyestrous animals. Nigerians are also multi-estrous, that is, they can produce multiple kids per breeding in higher ratios than other goat breeds. Nigerians produce more milk per amount of food consumed as well. When our first Nigerians arrived we were pleasantly surprised at how delicious their milk was. As one of our recent taste testers testified, "It's like milk times 100!" Add to that their great personalities, fantastic color combinations and patterns, and we fell in love with the Nigerian breed!
